Happy Father’s Day
“Why are you acting so weird?”
“I’m not weird.” She gently pushes me as she starts throwing random things into a pile on our bed.
I sigh and rub my head. “I didn’t say you were weird, I said you’re acting weird.” I circle my arms around her waist and tug her to me. “Coffee Girl, what is going on with you?” I kiss her neck and breathe in her floral scent.
“I’m looking for something and I can’t find it, and now you’re distracting me. Don’t you have a song to go sing or something?”
I kiss her neck right behind her ear and she shivers, “Nope.”
She huffs, “Well go write one.”
I laugh, “That’s Lex’s job and he’s on his honeymoon. Let me help you find what you’re looking for.” I take her hand and place it over the front of my jeans causing her to laugh.
“Nice try mister, but that would be a solid no.”
“Why not? What else are we going to do today?”
“Because, I can’t.” She taps her finger to her lips as her eyes look around the room, suddenly lighting up. She’s so adorable. She runs over to the nightstand and opens it up. “Aha! I knew I put it somewhere random.”
“What?” I grin.
“Ugh, don’t give me those dimples. Close your eyes.”
I sit down on the bed and close my eyes. “I’m kind of scared.”
“You should be. Just to ensure you don’t open them I’m tying this around your eyes.”
I feel satin slide over my skin as she knots something over my face. “Um…I’m not really into bondage if this is where you’re going and I can’t really breathe well…is this your lingerie?” I reach up to feel satin and lace over my face. “Huh…I guess I could get on board if you want.”
She giggles, “I couldn’t find a bandana. Just deal with it, I’m not going all fifty shades on you, pervert.”
Justin Bieber’s Baby starts to play loudly. “Shit, no! Ugh, stupid playlist! Damn TJ, I should have never let him help me.” she curses as Justin croons, causing me to laugh. “Ignore that, please.”
Be My Baby starts to play by The Ronettes. “Are you asking to be my baby? I think you already are.” I smirk.
She lifts the silky material off my head and smiles at me with tears in her eyes. I immediately go on high alert. “What’s wrong?”
I notice she’s holding a square gift in her hand. I take it from her and carefully undo the wrapping. Shit, did I forget some weird anniversary she’s made up in her head? Last month she got pissed when I forgot the anniversary of the first time we made pancakes. I better call Jimmy and have him make dinner reservations for us. I toss the wrapping paper aside and turn the frame over in my hands. I stare down at the picture, my brain unable to catch up with my eyes.
“See that little bean? We made that. Happy Father’s Day, Tater Tot.”
Tears swim in my eyes. “You mean…I’m going to be…”
She nods, “That’s our baby.”
I pull her to me and kiss her. I didn’t think I could love her more, but I was wrong. “How long have you known?”
“A few weeks. I wanted to surprise you on Father’s Day.”
“You kept a secret for that long?”
“Well, I had to tell TJ…and Sarah…and maybe—”
I kiss her tenderly effectively cutting her off, “I can’t believe we’re having a baby together.”
“Tater Tot Junior.”
“I love you Coffee Girl.”
“I love you more. Happy Father’s Day Tater Tot.”
